FlightShows didn’t start in the sky.
Before drone shows were even on the radar, Eoin O’Grady was deep in the world of live production. He founded AMP Sound Systems — a sound company that handled major theatre shows, touring productions, and outdoor events in Ireland and beyond.
Over the years, Eoin toured internationally with large-scale theatre, learning how to deliver tight, reliable, high-pressure shows night after night. That meant precision, discipline, planning, and knowing how to land an emotional moment — not just make it loud.
That experience shaped everything. From technical decision-making to how you communicate on-site, this was a crash course in what makes a show actually work.
Then COVID happened.
With theatres shut and the live industry in freefall, the future looked uncertain. AMP Sound Systems, like so many other companies, closed its doors. But the experience — and the hunger to keep building shows — remained.
Enter drones.
At first it seemed like a strange pivot. But once the potential became clear, it clicked. Here was a medium with tight show control, musical sync, and creative possibilities that hadn’t been fully explored yet.
Eoin teamed up with George Chatburn — another experienced touring technician — and together they founded FlightShows.
This wasn’t about building a drone company. It was about building a new kind of show company — one that could bring all the discipline of theatre and live production into the world of drone entertainment.
That mindset still guides everything we do.
FlightShows exists because of what came before. Every cue, every formation, every choice is grounded in real-world show experience — not theory. It’s not about flying a few drones around for fun. It’s about crafting something with meaning, timing, and emotional impact.
Because that’s what makes a show a show.
Still Crew at Heart
What makes FlightShows different is that we didn’t come from aerospace. We came from live events. We understand what it means to land a show in a car park in the rain, to deliver under pressure, to work as part of a wider team of lighting designers, production managers, and stage techs.
We’re not just drone operators. We’re show people.
So, when a client comes to us asking for a drone show that hits on a musical cue, or integrates with pyro and lasers, or can be pre-programmed to a precise storyboard — that’s our comfort zone.
We’ve been syncing shows for years. We just swapped subs for skies.
Why This Still Matters
AMP Sound Systems doesn’t exist anymore. We quietly shut down the business in 2020 to focus fully on FlightShows. But its DNA is everywhere. In the way we build shows. In the way we treat clients. In the calm, quiet confidence that comes from having actually done the work.
One Last Thing
I might not be able to set you up with a PA system anymore — but if you’re looking for a show that lands with impact, precision, and a bit of magic, I can give you a drone show. Book a call with me — let’s see what we can build together.
